Matthew Parker Fringe World

What a thrilling Fringe World season it’s been! The team at Azure Entertainment have been working hard around the clock coordinating a range of events and shows from our group of talented producers.

This year, our teams at both Lady Velvet Cabaret and The WA Performance School produced a number of sell-out performances for both kids and adults.

Our performances spread from the historic Fremantle Town Hall at the Freo Royale hub, all the way to Scarborough Beach for the Summerset Arts Festival hub, and to Perth and Northbridge for shows in the Pleasure Gardens and The Ellington Jazz Club.

2017 saw the return of the hugely popular Alice in Wonderland: Off with his head!, which sold out once again! Our favourite characters returned, as did some new special guests, and the show had a fresh new twist for our beachside performance at the Summerset Arts Festival.

The team at Lady Velvet Cabaret also outdid themselves with a spectacular new production, Symphonies of Sensuality. A burlesque show with a twist, this sell-out production featured burlesque, bellydance and variety performances – all set exclusively to classical music. With musical interludes from some of Azure’s multi-talented performers, the show packed out both the Ellington and the Fremantle Town Hall, and earned itself a great review from
“It was a case of literally anything goes; a zesty, borderline confrontational mix of hormones and chutzpah, as a brave and impressively flexible cast ground, strutted, pirouetted and can-canned their way through unpredictably steamy routines.”

Last but certainly not least, the team at The WA Performance School enchanted families at the Pleasure Gardens and the Summerset Arts Festival! Continuing their ongoing association with legendary Australian children’s entertainer Peter Combe, the kids at WAPS performed as Peter’s backup singers and dancers for the Bellyflop in a Pizza show. Some even pulled double shifts and also starred in The WA Performance School’s original show Activate! A thrilling show filled with singing, dancing, acting, fun and games, Activate! also had a great message about putting down the iPads and getting active not just physically but within your community too.

We are so thrilled with the success of all these wonderful producers’ shows, and it’s wonderful to see their efforts so well received by audiences and reviewers alike. As much as we’d like to have a month-long rest now, the Azure Entertainment team live by that old saying “there’s no rest for the wicked”!
Keep an eye on our blog for more updates about upcoming shows, and follow our wonderful artists on social media so you don’t miss out on your next chance to catch these gorgeous people on stage once again!
